“The Faces Of” Art Exhibit @ Heritage Hall Lounge-Area
Apr 5 – May 5 all-day

This year’s BIG Read explores indigenous peoples and more specifically violence and violence against indigenous women.

We are going to get involved by calling for public attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women because as the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center states, “it is more than an epidemic—instead is part of the spectrum of violence experienced by Native women.”

The epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women is “attributed to the lack of legal protection as a result of” the relocation and assimilation of indigenous peoples years ago (National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center).

We will call public attention to missing and murdered indigenous peoples by telling their stories in an art exhibit in the spring of 2024.

To participate in this powerful exhibit, please email Jen at jennifer_hazel@owens.edu

To have your class participate, please see the example The Face Of Exhibit Assignment Guidelines.

Email Jen at jennifer_hazel@owens.edu with questions.

College Closed
Apr 8 all-day

Owens Community College will be closed due to the total solar eclipse.

Both the Owens Toledo-area and Findlay-area campuses are located in the path of the total solar eclipse. According to NASA, a total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun and darkening the sky as if it were dawn or dusk. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806 and the next total solar eclipse in Ohio will be in the year 2099, according to the Ohio Emergency Management Association (EMA).

Both campus locations will be closed for students, faculty and staff. Offices will be closed and services will be unavailable, including transportation and the IT Help Desk. Owens Express athletic games will not be scheduled on that date. Facility rentals also will be unavailable for scheduling.

The Ohio EMA has published a website to assist in preparation for the eclipse:
